Principle 2 – National Unity and Unitary State

Unitory State

Our party holds firm to the conviction of a unitary Sri Lanka, strongly rejecting all forms of separatism. We staunchly defend the territorial integrity of our nation and promote the inviolability of our national borders. We recognize that the national territory is a key factor in a nation's identity, and that its protection is a primary responsibility of our party. Our commitment to territorial integrity is intertwined with our dedication to national unity. Rooted in this conviction, we celebrate Sri Lanka's vibrant diversity and honor each ethnic, cultural, and religious group that enriches our national fabric. Inspired by rich Buddhist philosophies, we seek to foster a shared sense of belonging and mutual respect among all Sri Lankans, regardless of their background. By emphasizing inclusivity and rejecting division, we aim to cultivate a unified national identity that propels Sri Lanka towards prosperity and stability in a rapidly evolving world.

MJP deeply rooted in the rich philosophies of Buddhism and other religions, advocates for a harmonious co-existence among all ethnic groups within Sri Lanka including the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others. It underscores the value of mutual respect, understanding, and inclusivity, inspiring a sense of belonging to all, irrespective of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.

Cultural Respect and Appreciation

Drawing from Buddhism's teachings of respect for all life and understanding of interdependence, our principle encourages admiration and acknowledgment of the diverse cultural heritage of all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. It promotes the celebration of this diversity in public and educational spaces, acknowledging the different languages, traditions, and customs of each ethnic group as integral facets of our national identity.

Equal Opportunity

Reflecting the ancient Sri Lankan ethos of equality and non-discrimination, we strive to provide equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of their ethnicity or religion. We aim to eradicate all forms of discrimination in public services, employment, and education and advocate for equitable resource allocation and representation across all societal structures.

Reconciliation and Peace-building

MJP believes in peace, empathy, compassion and forgiveness, we recognize the significance of addressing historical conflicts and fostering genuine reconciliation. We will encourage dialogues and understanding between different ethnic groups to nurture a culture of peace, healing past wounds through restorative justice initiatives.

We aim to implement policies and legislation that uphold the rights of all ethnic groups, fostering social cohesion. Laws that guard against hate speech, ensure racial equality and promote integration will be prioritized.

Community Engagement

We believe in communal living and shared responsibility, we promote community initiatives that integrate people from different ethnic backgrounds. Such collaborations foster mutual understanding and unity, solidifying our shared commitment towards building a harmonious nation.

This principle of National Unity, deeply entrenched in the wisdom of Buddhism and every other religion, acknowledges our differences while celebrating our shared human values. It embraces the multitude of cultures, traditions, and beliefs that constitute the Sri Lankan identity, steering us towards a united, peaceful future.

Principle 3 - Accountable Leadership and Unambiguous Openness

We firmly uphold the principle that all political leaders should bear a deep sense of accountability and responsibility for their actions, decisions, and the consequences that ensue. We stand against all forms of favoritism, cronyism, and nepotism, advocating for a culture in which every leader's foremost duty is to the people and the nation, above any personal or partisan interests. We believe that all those who deliberately transgress these norms should be subject to the full force of the Law.

Accountability is not an option, but an obligation; our leaders are expected to answer for their actions, to justify them, and to take corrective measures when necessary. We believe that leaders, in their roles as public servants, should act with a deep consciousness of their responsibilities, always aiming for the greater good.

Moreover, we stand for unambiguous openness in our political conduct. We are committed to making our actions and decisions transparent, ensuring every citizen has access to clear, accurate, and timely information. We are committed to open dialogues, open doors, and open minds. We believe that only through this level of openness can we truly foster an engaged citizenry, reduce corruption, and build a government that truly serves its people. By setting a high standard of transparency, we intend to create a political environment in Sri Lanka that strengthens democracy, upholds justice, and commands the trust of its people.

Principle 4 - Nurturing Intellectual Capital and Skill Enhancement

Holistic Education

We advocate for an education system that nurtures the overall development of an individual. Alongside the transfer of knowledge, we will encourage the cultivation of creativity, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and a broad world view. Our aim is to foster well-rounded individuals who embody the rich heritage of our culture and can contribute meaningfully to our nation and the world.

Beyond Memorization

We aim to shift away from the traditional examination-based system which tends to reward rote memorization. We believe that every child has unique talents and abilities that cannot be evaluated by standardised tests alone. Thus, we will work towards developing new assessment methods that can gauge a student's creativity, problem-solving abilities, and capacity for innovative thinking.

Adapting to Future Needs

We recognise that the future belongs to those who can harness the power of technology. Our aim is to make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education a focal point of our curriculum, moulding a generation that is technologically adept and can keep pace with global advancements.

Vocational and Technical Training

We are committed to expanding the horizons of education beyond traditional academic pathways. We will foster vocational and technical training programmes that offer practical skills and enhance employability, fostering self-sufficiency and innovation.

Lifelong Learning

We believe in the power of continuous learning. We will develop opportunities for adults to enhance their existing skills and learn new ones, providing pathways for career advancement and adaptability in a rapidly changing job market.

Nurturing Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship holds the key to economic growth and job creation. To this end, we will integrate entrepreneurship skills into our education system, fostering a spirit of innovation and business acumen from a young age.

Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to empower our citizens with knowledge, practical skills, and an innovative mindset, paving the way for robust economic growth and sustainable social development.

Principle 5- Promoting Sustainable Development for a Resilient Future

Green Economy

We aim to foster a green economy, placing environmental considerations at the heart of economic planning. We advocate for the adoption of renewable energy, waste management, and other sustainable technologies to create jobs, reduce environmental harm, and ensure long-term economic resilience.

Resource Management

Responsible resource management is key to sustainability. We will implement policies to sustainably manage and protect our land, water, and biodiversity. This includes measures to prevent over-exploitation, encourage conservation, and foster co-existence between human activities and the natural world.

Climate Resilience

As a tropical island nation, Sri Lanka is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We aim to build climate resilience by integrating climate considerations into national planning, improving disaster preparedness, and investing in adaptive measures such as climate-smart agriculture and infrastructure.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Urban areas are the engines of economic growth, but they also present environmental challenges. We will promote sustainable urban development, aiming to create cities that are live-able, resilient, inclusive, and capable of providing decent jobs, housing, and services without harming the environment.

Education for Sustainable Development

We believe in the power of education to drive sustainable development. We will incorporate sustainability principles into the national curriculum, empowering future generations to live sustainably and make informed decisions for their own wellbeing and that of the planet.

Social Equity and Inclusion

Sustainable development is not just about the environment; it is also about ensuring a fair and inclusive society. We will work to reduce inequalities, promote social inclusion, and ensure everyone can enjoy the benefits of development.

Through these principles, we aim to guide Sri Lanka towards a future where economic progress, social wellbeing, and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.

Principle 6- Cultivating Self-reliance through Inclusive Socio-Economic Policies

Economic Empowerment

We envision a Sri Lanka where every citizen has the opportunity to participate in a robust and thriving economy. To this end, we will champion policies that drive job creation, support entrepreneurial ventures, and promote equal access to financial services. Our goal is not to provide handouts, but to empower each individual to secure their own economic success. We believe that competition eliminates inefficiency, bureaucracy and corruption. Competition brings out the best and innate skills of our educated young people.

Societal Security and Welfare

Recognizing that some citizens may need additional support, we are committed to maintaining a robust welfare system. However, our focus extends beyond mere aid. We aim to create systems that uplift people from the need for continuous support, encouraging self-reliance and personal responsibility. Our policies will offer safety nets for those in need while fostering an environment where dependency is reduced.

Universal Healthcare

Health is a fundamental human right and should not be determined by one's economic status. We will work towards ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare services, from preventive care to mental health support, irrespective of their financial standing.

Innovative Education and Skills Development

We believe education should not just be about exams or rote learning. We aim to revolutionize our education system, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills that can lead to gainful employment. All citizens, irrespective of their socioeconomic background, will have access to these quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

Sustainable Assistance

In our vision for Sri Lanka, aid is not about handouts, but about providing tools for empowerment. This means equipping individuals with education, skills training, and resources to improve their own lives. We will offer assistance such as scholarships, job training, and small business loans, all designed to foster self-sufficiency and independence.

We are striving to cultivate a culture in Sri Lanka where reliance on government or political aids is diminished, and the spirit of self-reliance and individual empowerment is kindled. Through these principles, we aim to create a socio-economically inclusive society, where everyone not only contributes to our collective success but also reaps the benefits of it.

Principle 7- Balanced Global Engagement: Pursuing Mutually Beneficial Relationships

Our party understands and acknowledges Sri Lanka's critical geopolitical location, and the responsibilities it brings. As a nation situated at a strategic nexus, we have the potential to play a key role in fostering regional and global harmony.

We acknowledge the pivotal role that Asian superpowers such as China and Japan play in the region's stability and growth. We will actively engage with these nations in a spirit of cooperation, maintaining a balanced approach that ensures Sri Lanka's interests are protected while contributing to regional prosperity.

Global Partnerships

Beyond Asia, we will also forge meaningful relationships with global players like United States of America, Europe and Russia. Our interactions will be rooted in mutual respect, understanding, and the shared objective of fostering a more peaceful and prosperous world.

Neutral Advocacy

As a nation, we will not side unequivocally with any one global faction but maintain our neutrality, striving to make decisions that are in the best interest of Sri Lanka and its people.

World Betterment Commitment

We affirm our commitment to the global community. Our policies and actions will reflect our dedication to contributing positively to world affairs, such as climate change, human rights, and sustainable development.

We aspire to maintain a balanced stance in international relations, promoting diplomacy and mutual growth. Our goal is to navigate the complex waters of global politics delicately and confidently, fostering relationships that are built on trust, mutual respect, and shared interests.
